Issues notice to the Chief Secretary, Government of Haryana calling for a detailed report within one week

The report to include steps taken/ proposed to improve the overall condition

New Delhi, July 12, 2024 – The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report dated July 5, 2024, alleging that the infrastructure at Civil Hospital in Jind, Haryana is in a poor state. The report highlighted that only 19 of the 55 sanctioned doctor positions are filled, while approximately 2,000 patients visit the hospital daily. Due to the lack of proper medical equipment and medicines, most patients are referred to other hospitals. Additionally, a monkey menace has exacerbated the situation.

The NHRC noted that if the contents of the report are accurate, they indicate a severe violation of the right to health and medical care, fundamental human rights of citizens. In response, the Commission has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary of the Government of Haryana, requesting a detailed report within one week.

The NHRC expects the report to outline the steps taken or proposed to improve the overall condition of Jind Civil Hospital, ensuring that patients receive necessary medical care without difficulty and are not referred to other hospitals due to a lack of doctors and essential life-saving facilities.
